The Cameron, Schafer Richardson’s historic, affordable housing development in the North Loop, is on track to wrap up construction at the end of May. We are excited about the new life this building will bring to the neighborhood. As a publicly funded project, there were workforce inclusion goals set for employing minorities and women on the site during construction. Watson-Forsberg, the General Contractor for the project, has worked hard to not only achieve our goals, but exceed them! The committed workforce goals at Cameron were 2% Female participation and 17% Minority participation. Current participation on the project is 4% Female and 18% Minority.

Additionally, Section 3 goals were established for the project. Section 3 is a U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) provision that ensures that preference, in terms of employment and contracting opportunities, is given to qualified low-income persons or businesses residing in the community where the project is located. The Section 3 minimum requirements for the project were 10% and to date, the project is committed at 15%.

We are very glad to be supporting our community by providing employment opportunities with the rehabilitation of The Cameron. A special acknowledgement goes to Watson Forsberg for their diligent efforts to reach out to the community and exceed hiring goals on this project!
