Posted Under: News

Schafer Richardson is proud to announce the completion of our company’s newest affordable housing project located in the vibrant Northeast Arts District of Minneapolis. The project, named Timber and Tie, is a mixed-use building offering 175 studio through four-bedroom apartment units, a public facing art gallery, and a stand alone makerspace located at the rear of the property. The building hosts a litany of desirable amenity spaces, including: a fitness center, outdoor playground, pet park, community room, kids’ playroom, game room, on-site management, and a handful of other spaces.

Rental eligibility for the apartment units is restricted to 60% AMI, with 25 of the rental units being designated for Project Based Housing Vouchers through partnership with the Minneapolis Public Housing Authority. Timber and Tie is Schafer Richardson’s third affordable housing project in Minneapolis.

The building was intentionally designed to spur interaction between residents and the broader community and also incorporates various energy conscious design features, including: a white roof, upgraded efficiency HVAC units, water efficient fixtures, LED lighting, energy star appliances, limited VOC materials, recycling, and organics recycling.

Timber and Tie was designed and constructed by Amcon Construction, interiors were selected by BDH, and the property will be managed by Steven Scott Management and SR Management Services. Financing for the project was provided by Bremer Bank, Greater Minnesota Housing Fund, Colliers (Dougherty), Metropolitan Council, Hennepin County, the City of Minneapolis, Minneapolis Public Housing Authority, WNC, and Peter Brodd.
