Soul Apartments Receives MN Brownfields Innovation Award

Posted Under: News, Uncategorized

We are honored to share that Soul Apartments in St. Paul received the Minnesota Brownfields Innovation Award at the ReScape Gala last week!

Soul overcame significant environmental remediation challenges including a groundwater intrusion issue. What originally arose as a temporary construction issue, namely elevated groundwater levels due to spring flooding of the Mississippi River, resulted in the realization that a resilient and environmentally compliant de-watering solution was needed for the Soul project.

The development has transformed a once under-utilized, 2.86-acre site near amenity-rich Downtown Saint Paul in 178 affordable apartments. Soul offers its residents proximity to employment, public transportation, and essential services. A solar roof reduces the carbon footprint and promotes renewable energy use.

A huge thank you to our incredible project partners and agencies that helped us complete this project – Stantec, Loucks, Weis Builders, Bolander, Kaas Wilson Architects, City of Saint Paul, Minnesota Pollution Control Agency, Minnesota Department of Natural Resources, DEED, Ramsey County, Metropolitan Council, Royal Bank of Canada (RBC), Merchants Bank, AFL-CIO, Freddie Mac, West Side Community Organization, and Greater Minnesota Housing Fund.
