FUND ACCOUNTANT
Location: Minneapolis, MN
FLSA Status: Full-Time, Exempt
SUMMARY
Schafer Richardson, LLC is a real estate investment company providing development, management, leasing, and construction services to its commercial and multifamily real estate portfolio in the Upper Midwest.
The Fund Accountant will work closely with the Chief Accounting Officer as well as cross-functional teams to support fund-level and REIT accounting, consolidations, reporting, and treasury management. Responsibilities include general accounting functions such as preparing journal entries, maintaining balance sheet schedules, account and bank reconciliations, financial reporting, and supporting internal audits and tax processes. The role will ensure financial data integrity, compliance with policies and regulations, and provide financial insights through accurate reporting and analysis.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

- Assist with monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes, including preparation of internal financial reports.
- Prepare and review financial statements, journal entries, and reconciliations across fund entities.
- Perform monthly bank and account reconciliations.
- Assist with the year-end audit and tax documentation for external CPA firms.
- Review and oversee third party property management accounting records.
- Perform audits of third party records, specifically around rental assistance and compliance.
- Ensure financial records are maintained in compliance with GAAP and internal control standards.
- Support insurance processing for third party managed properties.
- Conduct financial analysis and provide ad hoc reporting as requested.
- Review legal, loan, and partnership documents to ensure proper accounting treatment.
- Ensure compliance with financial covenants and reporting requirements.
- Identify and resolve accounting discrepancies and irregularities (internal and third party).
- Provide support to asset management and executive teams with accurate, timely financial insights.
- Maintain consistent and accurate journal entries across fund entities.
- Collaborate with internal departments and external partners as needed to ensure seamless financial operations.
- Help maintain and service internal promissory notes payables/receivables.
- Help maintain and service fund ownership records.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting required.
- Minimum of 3 to 5 years of experience in financial reporting, budgeting, consolidations, and analysis.
- Experience in real estate, private equity, fund accounting, or property management preferred.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Strong understanding of accrual accounting, consolidations, and financial reporting.
- Experience working with multiple entities and intercompany transactions.
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- High level of attention to detail and accuracy.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a dynamic environment.
- Strong communication skills—both verbal and written.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office, especially Excel. Experience with Yardi is preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively across teams.
- Strong sense of urgency and ability to meet deadlines.
- Professional demeanor and commitment to maintaining confidentiality.
